Artist’s Bio

Wilfredo Morel has been sculpting since he was a teenager, living in the streets of New York City and gathering scraps of leather to work with. Born in the Dominican Republic, Morel lived in several countries before coming to New York to live with his father in 1976. He is a highly acclaimed Hudson Valley Region artist known for his sculptures utilizing recycled materials, related to the communities where materials are found. As such his work provides a powerful symbolic model for art as a focal point in urban renewal, emphasizing a revitalization of discarded and neglected resources. Wilfredo has been creating metal sculpture installations throughout the Hudson Valley since 1991https://www.traditionrolex.com/31. His creations range from semi-abstract images, to representational bronze sculptures and metal wall reliefs. He has developed a series of community art projects, specifically Arts10566, One World One Peekskill & the Culture Club, that use art as a tool to facilitate community participation and dialogue within vulnerable and disenfranchised communities. 

Wilfredo is a past Artist Review Panelist for both ArtsMidHudson and ArtsWestchester, and is a current Board Member of Peekskill’s Artist Certification Council and the NYS Folk Art Society.
